The Other Animal Kingdom

This morning I came the realization that I have not been fulfilling my parental responsibility to teach my children properly. Sure, we’ve covered the basics; abc’s, animals, colors, shapes, parts of the body and so on. But I have completely left out the other animal kingdom. Animals like wookies, ewoks, gremlins, werewolves, dragons, jackalopes and the like. Sure They get a bit of education from the television, but I hardly think that at the age appropriate programming we allow will cover even close to the basics of the other animal kingdom.

Plus there are even more animals that I’m only vaguely aware of from today’s kids shows. Where do the teletubbies live (I’d like to avoid that town), how about those colourful little ponies, the Rollie Pollies, and the Backyardigans? And what the hell is a Bubble Guppy?!

While we’re at it, I also realized that my own education is lacking. I know that Santa lives in the north pole and that leprechauns and most of the fairy population are originally from Ireland, but where do the tooth fairy, Easter bunny, elves, dwarves, and the Grinch live?

I’m not panicking yet, my oldest kid isn’t four years old yet. But I’m going to need to know this stuff sooner rather than later!

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.
