“Next time we get together, let’s try to avoid the ER.” My neighbor.
My son’s birthday party BBQ was Saturday. The downpour started about half an hour before the guests arrived and continued until about half an hour after they left. (Was it something I did?) So the party was inside.
The first activity, post diving. As in, our youngest guest’s full speed, head first, dive into the post in the basement. Exit family #1 to the ER.
Followed by a phone call from family #2 whose little one was down with the flu. So really, no family #2.
Enter family #3 and the boys are off and running.
Re-enter half of family #1 and the party begins.
The men huddle near the back door where we’ve moved the BBQ. Kids run wild all over the house (I didn’t plan games. It’s a BBQ for goodness sake, we’ll be outside right?).
It was fun, relaxed, loud, and there was only the one injury. I’d call it a success!
