Summer Bliss

So now that we’ve finally had summer worthy weather in our neck of the woods, we’ve spent the entire weekend outside. I love summer!

A few of my favorite things about summer include:

  • Eating outside. Which means that there’s no need to clean up all of the food that fell on the ground.
  • Bare feet. I get tired of trying to keep my kids still long enough to get their socks and shoes on to play outside. In summer, I don’t have to bother.
  • Pool time equals bath time, sort of. I figure a rinse off is almost as good as a bath. If the kids are out in the kiddie pool multiple times a week, then they don’t really need a bath quite so badly.
  • Afternoon drinks. In winter it seems a little too lushy to be breaking out the alcohol after lunch. In summer, out on the back deck, it’s perfectly acceptable.
  • Fresh air is excellent for exhausting children. By bedtime they crash and sometimes they even sleep in after having a full day outside.
  • Popsicles and ice cream. We only eat them in summer, outside. Then when the kids are all good and sticky, we toss them in the pool to clean up.
  • Extra hours of daylight. I love having some daylight left after the kids go to bed.

What do you love about summer?

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.

It’s winter where I live so I just read your post with longing because I love summer too.

I have to go with the whole more hours of daylight as my fav perk of summertime. But I also like the drinking in the afternoon. I thought that was only acceptable at bridal showers and city council meetings, but now I will amend to include “summer”.

Love, love, love summer! And you are right, doesn’t seem so wrong to break out an adult beverage in the afternoon in summer 🙂 The extra hours of daylight are dreamy for me.

  4. The kids played in this water feature thing (glorified sprinkler) yesterday so we could skip bath 😀 swimming=bathing.
    I love tiring them out.

  5. I love everything about the summer! The hotter the better!

I have to disagree on the “no drinking during the day in winter” thing. How better to keep warm on a bitterly cold January day than with some nice mulled wine? Or a flask of brandy? Okay, I guess I sound a little like a lush. You didn’t think my red nose came from the cold, did you?

What do I love about summer? Hosing off the picnic table, dishes, and little guys all at the same time.
