Like a Pirate: Monday Quotes #19

“What do ya do with a drunken sailor, earligh in the marnin?” I have no idea who wrote this song but you can listen to a fun version of the entire song (with random extra verses) at the website for International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

In case you don’t know, September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Apparently this year is the 10th anniversary of ITLAPD. It is one of my favorite annual holidays. Sadly, it’s not a paid holiday so I don’t take the whole day off to talk like a pirate. I do celebrate by turning my Facebook page language to ‘Pirate’ and send at least one or 2 piratey emails out to friends over the course of the day.

Here are 5 basic terms you should master in order to enjoy ITLAPD to its fullest (taken directly from their website):

Ahoy! – Hello
Avast! – Stop and pay attention to this.
Aye! – Yes, I agree.
Aye aye! – I’ll get right on it.
Arrr! – Can mean a variety of things including, but not limited to: yes, I agree, I’m happy, I’m enjoying this beer, that was clever, and anything else you’d like it to mean.

I realize this post has had nothing at all to do with parenting, so for all of us with children, there is a special site for kids at http://www.talklikeapirate.com/juniorpirates.html

Pirate fun for the whole family!

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.

My son used to talk like a pirate so much in grade 10 that they put signs up around the school that read, “No Talking like a Pirate Here”. Really! On a separate note, I nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. It’s in my last post. – http://ritarussell.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/finally-a-thank-you/. Hope you have a great day!

Put ‘im in the scuppers with the hose pipe on ‘im, DRP. I used to live and work on a whale watching boat when I was in my late teens, and we’d sing this all the time. Thanks for sharing!
