Operation Fanny Pack – Update

In case you missed it, I have embarked upon a mission to shrink or completely remove (non-surgically) my child induced fanny pack. I had a plan, I had motivation, I had a small window of time every other night to put it all into action.

To date, I have sort of followed my 2 step plan to stop eating chips and get off my lazy ass in the evenings. By sort of followed, I mean that I haven’t eaten chips (except for that one time) and I’ve downloaded a whole lot of exercise videos which I have watched while not eating chips. I did go jogging a few times in the beginning but now it’s just way too dark and rainy outside by the time the littlest one is in bed.

Then the most terrible thing happened. I stepped on the scale in the bathroom the other night and was shocked to discover that I had put on a few pounds. What the hell is going on around here?! I’m not sure if I need to make a new plan or hire a personal motivator.

Is there such thing as a personal motivator? I’m sure there are any number of unemployed ex-cheerleaders just looking for this sort of work.

Now I just have to decide which way to go.

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.

  2. Hang in there! Losing weight is frustrating. I haven’t gained any weight but I keep getting flabbier. Bleh.

    The key is finding what works for you. If you can, for the workout try to find something you enjoy that also involves physical activity (a martial arts class, a class at the gym, yoga, etc.). The hardest part, for me at least, is not eating like crap. I too love chips… and cookies, and … 😉

    Avoid the scale too. Focus on inches. Heck, focus on the increased energy levels as well. That is always good motivation for me.

    I’m not trying to make it sound easy because I know it isn’t. These are just things that help me focus. And we all slip up so one last tip would be not to get to down on yourself for slipping up or “cheating”. It will only make you feel like you have failed and demotivate you.

    It took me a few minutes to figure out what you meant by fanny pack. I thought you had a clingy kid and you were trying to remove him or her from your person. LOL.

  5. As the commentator above said, remember that muscle weighs more than fat! If you want a really useful metric, you could use measurements — measure your waist or your thighs or butt 🙂 — once a week or so. Much more rewarding and accurate, frankly, than the scale.

    My “easiest thing to do ever” to start weight loss going: don’t drink anything but water (tea and coffee ok). Good luck!

  7. I am currently trying to shrink the baby belly from my last baby (who I had eight years ago). I have been doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Not everyday, of course. I figure I will make it the 90 day shred and do it every couple of days – torture for only a few days a week! The scale is the devil, by the way. I have sent mine packing!

  8. Let me know where you find the motivation. I put on skinny jeans the other day and they cried. I need help.
