It’s Never Too Early!

Twas the month before Christmas
and all through the house
every creature was stirring
yes, even the mouse!

Even before Halloween is over, those blasted stores and advertisers have their Christmas crap all over the place! No sooner than you’ve put away your Halloween decorations and costumes, than your children are asking, “is it Christmas yet?” Over and over again.

If you are wise, you will set some sort of hard and fast rule about what the earliest date is that you’re willing to bring out the Christmas stuff. Assuming you celebrate Christmas that is.

American’s have an easy out until after their Thanksgiving, it’s in November sometime isn’t it? We’ve selected Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) as our “no way in hell are we putting up the Christmas tree before this” date. I grew up with decorating on the first day of December. Naturally the tree went up on the 12th.

So even though the tree is up, we are careful to emphasize that it is not Christmas yet! The tree is more like a cross between a plant (people have plants up all year right) and a lamp (fairly standard living room decor). Ā I like to thing of it as a plant-lamp, a plamp! As long as we don’t decorate it until December, then it’s not really too early to have the damn thing set up in the corner of the living room.

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home.

  1. We wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving Day. Or until Dad is willing to bring the tree up from the basement, which could be mid-December. šŸ™‚

  2. “Plamp” almost made coffee come out my nose.

  3. You’re so brave to have the tree up already – six weeks of pine needles!

  4. We put our tree up this past weekend. I does add to the holiday spirit, although it is making me realize how much shopping I need to do in less than a month!
