Remembering the Barenaked Ladies

Yesterday on my route from the office to the daycare, I heard a song by the Barenaked Ladies, “Bank Job.” It made me laugh. I had forgotten how much I liked their music. Way back in my youth, a million years ago, my friends and I listened and dreamed to “If I Had $1 000 000” and raised a glass to “Alcohol.”

I almost feel like I need to apologize to them…

I’m sorry I nearly forgot about you and your music Ladies. You’ve entertained me, made me laugh, given me things to dream about and I’ve repaid you by letting you drift out of my life without a word of protest. In my defence, I’ve been busy having kids, getting a couple of degrees, working, renovating houses, starting a business, moving across the country, dealing with family illness and so on. I know, it’s no excuse to cut the music out of my life.

Of course, now that the kids are in daycare we’re on a pretty tight budget, so I won’t be buying your CD’s, iTunes songs, or concert tickets any time in the near future. I checked out your website though, and it looks like you’re probably doing okay without my business.

However, in the spirit of apologizing, I promise that if you send me one of your kids albums, I’ll give it the most entertaining music review ever written. You did do a kids album or two didn’t you? I heard that some of you Ladies had kids so it only makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

PS. My son likes to be naked a lot so I think you should consider him an honorary Barenaked Lady.

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.

  1. Love The Barenaked Ladies so. One of the proudest moments of my parenting life was when I realized my children knew all the words to If I Had a Million Dollars… 🙂

  2. Appreciating the hard work you put into your website and in depth information you provide. It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same old rehashed material. Fantastic read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
