Potty training – Take 7

We’re taking another stab at potty training our daughter who is now well over 3 years old. This morning she had a temper tantrum every time we tried to put her on the potty, peed herself twice and crapped in her underwear once.

This afternoon I put a pull up back on her and have not attempted to sit her on the toilet at all.

We’ll try again tomorrow.

About dirtyrottenparenting

I'm a parent of two lovely (most of the time) children. I work full time out of the home and I don't cook well, bake, sew, or do crafty things. I keep my high heels and jewelry at my office because there's no point in having them at home. I love Mondays because I can return to the world of adults, go to the bathroom alone and have nearly uninterrupted conversations with others.

I have four of my own and minded six more, that is a lot of potties. All got there eventually. Sometimes the most unlikely ones succeeded first. My trick was to put a jar of chocolate sweets in the kitchen. Simple sweets not hard ones. Every time they sat on the potty or loo they were given a sweet. if anything happened they got one for each hand, I reminded them often but never “made” them sit. For about two days they munched their way through that jar sometimes sitting every few minutes and jumping up after seconds ( just for a sweet!) But by day three we were in business and in a very short period of time the jar was retired. They all got there in the end!

  2. I have been there…..keep it up it does get better.

I understand your frustration. many years ago, My Mom’s friend commented on my frustration and said, “Do you see any adults wearing diapers, sucking their thumbs or drinking out of a bottle? They all grow out of it – some take longer than others but, they all grow out of it.”
Happy to report that my teens are all potty trained :). Hang in there! ~maria

  4. I feel your pain and wish you luck. I think I tried every suggestion to potty train both of my boys, now 8 and 12, and, happily, both out of diapers since they were 3 1/2. Hang in there – they all figure it out eventually!

Potty training is one of my top ten least favorite things in the entire world. My experience with both of our daughters was very similar, repeat repeat repeat, then eventually eureka. By then I am exhausted and don’t care if they wear diapers for the rest of their lives.

  6. Both of my boys were challenging and neither was a pro before three. So, while you may be bummed, know you are not alone.
