About DRP

Dirty Rotten Parenting is all about allowing parents to laugh about the tough parts of parenting, hopefully in a way that will help us cope, thrive, and drink less alcohol each night!

DRP is the Second Funniest Blog in Canada in 2012 according to the Canadian Weblog Awards.

Robin, the blog-ruler, has a Master’s in clinical Social Work, a BA in Communications, and a shitload of experience working with children, adolescents, teens, and at risk youth in a variety of settings. That means she really knows what she’s talking about!

Robin is accustomed to referring to herself as mommy and speaking in the 3rd person. Robin finds this annoying but can’t seem to stop, at least not while at home. At work, Robin is able to speak like a normal human being, go to the bathroom alone, and have uninterrupted conversations with other adults.

Robin lives on Vancouver Island, off the west coast of British Columbia with her husband and 2 small (constantly moving) children.  Having escaped from the frigid winters and mosquito infested summers of Winnipeg, Robin is thrilled with the mild, hospitable weather out here on the left coast.

  1. Okay, Robin…I found you because you “liked” one of my posts, so I thought I’d mosey on over to see what your blog was all about. I’m subscribing because you’ve made me laugh twice and made me stand up and cheer once. Nice job! I look forward to reading more from your blog.

Oops…gotta correct my above statement: you made me laugh out loud three times. The third time when you said you leave your high heels and jewelry at the office. Too funny! If I had an office to keep them, I might have high heels, too. 🙂

Well, I’m not sure if you’ll find this as funny as I do, but as I was heading over to your site to nominate you for a blog award, I learned that you are living on Vancouver Island and I was born there. And my sister in currently living in Winnipeg (and hates it). It was your latest post about the ferry ride that tipped me off. Not too many places in North America that have to deal with that! Whereabouts are you? (feel free to pm me the details if you don’t want to let the whole world know atlanticmama@gmail.com).
ANYWAYS, I was just nominated for the versatile blogger award and since I enjoy your posts so much, I am passing it on to you! Details here: http://atlanticmama.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/awards-and-such/
And cheers to you enjoying life on the west coast!

  3. My kid’s 15 now and sometimes I still slip and say things like, “Mommy is going to the kitchen now.” Boy, the look he gives me. Actually, sometimes I do it on person just to freak him out. It’s especially entertaining if his friends are within earshot.

Ha ha! Drinking less alcohol is good! Thanks for the Like and I certainly think I will be reading and liking some of your stoo. Lived in Victoria once but never Winnipeg. Looking forward to reading some more.

  5. My four year old has taken to speaking in the third person as well. It is kind of a hoot to hear such a little one do it!

I popped on over after you took a peek at my site as well, I’ve enjoyed reading yours and look forward to reading more! I’m going to add your blog to my recent post on Mommy Blogs 🙂

  7. I am so happy that you commented on one of my posts; I intend to stalk you with fervor from now on! I think we subscribe to the same parenting philosophy (laugh it off) and I can’t wait to read more of what you have to say!!!!!

  8. Please tell Robin that sober is overrated. 😉

  9. Kristyl says:

You commented on our Miss 604 post so I thought I’d stalk you a little and turns out you are pretty damn funny! Love your blog.

Hey there! Found you scrolling through someone else’s blog. Funny, we just visited British Columbia a couple of summers ago from Southern California. I had a blogger friend come drive down to meet me. So, you might want to check out her blog http://www.theredneckprincess.net/
She is in your neck of the blog-o-sphere. My kids loved Vancouver/Vancouver Island because all the kids meals come with ICE CREAM. Although your “Smarties” are different, the kiddos liked your version too!

Subscribing to your blog today. When you have a moment, come swing by my world.

  11. Hi Robin,

I’m compiling a free e-book about the Greatest Articles and I’m featuring excellent comments. Your thoughts in “i-unFacebook: Why You Have Facebook And Why it’s Sensible to Quit” is a standout! I’m asking permission if I could include your words in the book?

    All the best,
    Justin G. Bautista

Thanks for the laughs! And I have also noticed that I am starting to talk in the 3rd person now that I am home more with my kiddos. That’s when I start drinking wine 🙂

I went to college in Bellingham, WA not too far south of you. So gorgeous over there, I miss it so much! New follower!

My daughters are 15 and 20 and I have yet to find a more effective coping mechanism than wine. Laughter helps – wine keeps me from strangling them.
